Background of the Study
Migration is a significant socio-economic phenomenon that reshapes family dynamics and traditional structures. In Ogoja, traditional family systems—characterized by extended networks and communal living—are increasingly disrupted as family members migrate in search of better economic opportunities (Udo, 2023). Urbanization and globalization have prompted many individuals to relocate to urban centers, thereby altering household compositions, caregiving roles, and intergenerational support systems (Ibrahim, 2024). These changes may lead to weakened familial bonds and the erosion of traditional cultural practices that underpin community identity (Emeka, 2025). This study investigates the impact of migration on traditional family structures in Ogoja, analyzing how economic and social pressures affect family cohesion and cultural continuity (Udo, 2023), and suggests policy interventions to mitigate adverse effects (Ibrahim, 2024).
Statement of the Problem
Migration in Ogoja has led to notable changes in traditional family structures, resulting in reduced intergenerational support and cultural fragmentation. As economic imperatives drive family members to urban centers, traditional roles and responsibilities within extended families are disrupted (Emeka, 2025). This study seeks to understand the impact of migration on familial bonds and cultural transmission, highlighting the challenges faced by families in maintaining traditional practices. Addressing these issues is essential to formulating strategies that preserve family unity and cultural heritage amid evolving socio-economic conditions (Udo, 2023).
Objectives of the Study:
1. To assess the impact of migration on traditional family structures.

3. To propose strategies to mitigate negative impacts on family cohesion.

Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it explores the complex relationship between migration and traditional family structures, providing insights into the social consequences of economic migration in Ogoja. The findings will inform policies aimed at supporting family unity and preserving cultural heritage in the face of demographic changes (Udo, 2023).
Scope and Limitations of the Study:
